When I was Second Mate the Master I was sailing with told me of when, as second mate, he got a look at the Master’s orders. This was a confidential matter but it gave him a head start on the passage planning.
All went well except for the last port – Lefo. It wan’t in any of the normal publications, Norries Tables, Admiralty Publications etc
Stumped he eventually confessed his sins to the Master and admitted he couldn’t find Lefo.
He was told it was a short cut for ‘Lands End for Orders’.
