Situated on the Isle of Lewis in a great harbour. Famous for Black Pudding. The town is essentially a co-operative and owned by the residents. It also benefited from two very wealthy patrons, Sir James Matheson ( one of the founders of Jardine Matheson) and William Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme (founder of Lever Brothers). Matheson built the castle in the photos below. It is built on a site used much earlier by vikings etc it fell into dis-repair but is presently being renovated.
A nice stay in a lovely place.
