We left Beaufort heading North, along Adams Creek and then into Pamlico Sound where we departed the normal ICW route and cruised up the sound toward Roanoke Island. We anchored at Long Point for one night. Next morning cruised up to Roanoke Island, site of Sir Walter Raleigh’s settlement.
The town, Manteo, was quite with excellent internet, a good local brewery and friendly people. The harbour was very shallow and we could actually hear the crab pots being crushed under the hull as we came and went – too numerous to avoid.
